MonsterVerse Will Struggle To Introduce New Titans In Its Godzilla Show

Apple TV+’s Godzilla show will have a hard time introducing new Titans into the MonsterVerse. So far, little is known about what to expect from the live-action MonsterVerse TV series. That being said, an official synopsis has provided at least some clues as to its story and where the show fits into the timeline of events.

Created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction, an untitled Godzilla TV show is on its way to Apple’s streaming service. Apparently, the show will take place after Godzilla defeats two MUTOS in San Francisco at the end of the 2014 movie. The story will deal directly with the aftermath of that event and how humanity will react now that it The existence of the Titans is no longer a secret. It looks like the movie will be set between Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, separated by a gap of five years. This was an important period of discovery for Monarch, who expanded his operations and discovered more MonsterVerse Titans.

These details about the show’s place in the timeline are a sign that introducing new monsters will be difficult – if not impossible – for the show to pull off. A line in King of the Monsters set a fixed number for how many Titans Monarch knew about in 2019. Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) confirmed to Mark (Kyle Chandler) that Monarch had knowledge of “17 and counting” Titans (not counting Godzilla). Due to a few monitor screens that listed locations for their outposts, all of these Titans’ names are already known. If only so many monsters were discovered during the timeframe of Apple TV+’s Godzilla show, the series may be limited to using only Godzilla and the 17 Titans.

Behemoth is a new Titan in Godzilla: King of the Monsters

For years, there have been hopes that the MonsterVerse would finally get a chance to use classic Toho kaiju like Anguirus, King Caesar, Gigan, and Baragon. To some, Apple TV+’s show may have seemed like the best opportunity for their MonsterVerse debuts to happen. Unfortunately, what King of the Monsters established about Monarch’s Titan discoveries will make it difficult for the show to work any of them into the story. If Gigan or Anguirus popped up after Godzilla, they too should have been in Monarch’s files. The same would of course go for any brand-new Titan as well.

Finding a way to bring in new Titans that doesn’t disrupt MonsterVerse continuity could be a significant challenge for the Godzilla show. As a result, there may instead be a greater focus on the Titans that the movies already introduced, such as Godzilla himself, Rodan, Scylla, Behemoth, and Methuselah. There’s also the matter of King of the Monsters’ 11 missing Titans. Since most don’t have official designs or backstories yet, finally revealing them could be the show’s best way of contributing to the MonsterVerse’s lore.
